Nilpotent Elements of Vertex Algebras

Abstract

Using the method of commutative algebra, we show that the set $\mathfrak{R}$ of nilpotent elements of a vertex algebra $V$ forms an ideal, and $V/\mathfrak{R}$ has no nonzero nilpotent elements.
