Condensate Mechanism of Conformal Symmetry Breaking and the Higgs Boson

Abstract

A mechanism of spontaneous conformal symmetry breaking based on field condensates in the Standard Model of strong and electroweak interactions is suggested. It is shown that an existence of the top quark condensate can supersede the tachyon mass term in the Higgs potential in the standard mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking. Considering the ratio of a field condensate to the corresponding mass power (depending on quantum statistics) for various fields as a conformal invariant, we obtain the Higgs boson mass to be about 130 15 GeV.
