Rank and deficiency gradients of generalised Thompson groups of type F
Abstract
For an arbitrary sequence (Gs) of subgroups of finite index in the generalised Thompson group Fn, ∞ = x0, x1, …, xm, … xixj = xi+ n-1 for i > j ≥ 0 it is shown that s ≥ 1 d(Gs) < ∞ and that the deficiency gradient of Fn, ∞ with respect to (Gs) is 0 provided [G : Gs] tends to infinity. A higher dimensional analogue is considered for n = 2.
