Actions of groups of diffeomorphisms on one-manifolds by C1 diffeomorphisms

Abstract

Denote by (M)0 the identity component of the group of the compactly supported Cr diffeomorphisms of a connected C∞ manifold M. We show that if (M)≥2 and r≠ (M)+1, then any homomorphism from (M)0 to 1() or 1(S1) is trivial.
