Structure and asymptotics for Catalan numbers modulo primes using automata

Abstract

Let Cn be the nth Catalan number. We show that the asymptotic density of the set \n: Cn 0 p \ is 1 for all primes p, We also show that if n = pk -1 then Cn -1 p. Finally we show that if n \ p+12, p+32, ..., p-2 \ p then p divides Cn. All results are obtained using the automata method of Rowland and Yassawi.
