The k-transformation on an interval with a hole

Abstract

Let Tk be the expanding map of [0,1) defined by Tk(x) = k x\ mod 1, where k≥ 2 is an integer. Given 0≤ a<b≤ 1, let Wk(a,b)=\x∈ [0,1)\ \ Tknx (a,b), for all n≥ 0\ be the maximal T-invariant subset of [0,1) (a,b). We examine the Hausdorff dimension of Wk(a,b) as a and b vary.
