Bounds for the gamma function
Abstract
We improve the upper bound of the following inequalities for the gamma function due to H. Alzer and the author. equation* (-12(x+1/3))<(x)xxe-x2π<(-12(x)). equation* We also prove the following new inequalities: For x≥1 \[ 2πxxe-x(x2+x3+a*)14<(x+1)<2πxxe-x(x2+x3+a*)14 \] with the best possible constants a*=e44π2-43=0.049653963176..., and a*=1/18=0.055555..., and for x≥0 equation* [x(x (x+1))]≤(x+1)≤[x(x2+1)], equation* where is the digamma function.
