A multi-messenger analysis of neutron star mergers
Abstract
The merger of two neutron stars is a very complex process. In order to disentangle the various steps through which it takes place it is mandatory to examine all the signals we can detect: gravitational waves and electromagnetic waves, in a huge spectrum ranging from X and γ-rays down to infrared and radio. Each of these signals provides a message and the totality of this information will allow us not only to understand the process of the merger but also the behavior of matter at those extreme conditions.
