Abstract

Inspired by Clarkson's inequalities for Lp and continuing work from CR, this paper computes the optimal constant C in the weak parallelogram laws \|f + g \|r + C\|f - g\|r ≤ 2r-1( \|f\|r + \|g\|r ), \|f + g \|r + C\|f- g \|r ≥ 2r-1( \|f\|r + \|g \|r ) for the Lp spaces, 1 < p < ∞.
