On degrees of birational mappings

Abstract

We prove that the degrees of the iterates deg(fn) of a birational map satisfy ( deg(fn))<+∞ if and only if the sequence deg(fn) is bounded, and that the growth of deg(fn) can not be arbitrarily slow, unless deg(fn) is bounded.
