Dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of Alexey N. Gerasimov, one of the initiators of Fractional Calculus in Solid Mechanics. We provide a brief sketch of his life and the scientific contributions of the Soviet mechanician A.N.Gerasimov are given.
