The pentagon equation and the confluence relations
Abstract
We show an equivalence of Drinfeld's pentagon equation and Hirose-Sato's confluence relations. As a corollary, we obtain a pentagon-free presentation of the Grothendieck-Teichm\"uller group GRT1 and associators.
