Exponents of [( Sr+1), (Y)]

Abstract

We investigate the exponents of the total Cohen groups [( Sr+1), (Y)] for any r 1. In particular, we show that for p 3, the p-primary exponents of [( Sr+1), ( S2n+1)] and [( Sr+1), ( S2n)] coincide with the p-primary homotopy exponents of spheres S2n+1 and S2n, respectively. We further study the exponent problem when Y is a space with the homotopy type of (n)/G for a homotopy n-sphere (n), the complex projective space CPn for n 1 or the quaternionic projective space HPn for 1 n ∞.
