A Sturm Liouville theorem for quadratic operator pencils
Abstract
We establish a SturmLiouville theorem for quadratic operator pencils counting their unstable real roots, with applications to stability of waves. Such pencils arise, for example, in reduction of eigenvalue systems to higher-order scalar problems.
