Hospitalization in the transmission of dengue dynamics: The impact on public health policies

Abstract

Dengue virus has caused major problems for public health officials for decades in tropical and subtropical countries. We construct a compartmental model that includes the risk of hospitalization and its impact on public health policies. The basic reproductive number, R0, is computed, as well as a sensitivity analysis on R0 parameters and discuss the relevance in public health policies. The local and global stability of the disease-free equilibrium is established. Numerical simulations are performed to better determine future prevention/control strategies.
