Isoperimetric estimates in low dimensional Riemannian products

Abstract

Let (Tk,hk)=(Sr11× Sr21 × ... × Srk1, dt12+dt22+...+dtk2) be flat tori, rk≥ ...≥ r2≥ r1>0 and ( Rn,gE) the Euclidean space with the flat metric. We compute the isoperimetric profile of (T2× Rn, h2+gE), 2≤ n≤ 5, for small and big values of the volume. These computations give explicit lower bounds for the isoperimetric profile of T2× Rn. We also note that similar estimates for (Tk× Rn, hk+gE), 2≤ k≤5, 2≤ n≤ 7-k, may be computed, provided estimates for (Tk-1× Rn+1, hk-1+gE) exist. We compute this explicitly for k=3. We use symmetrization techniques for product manifolds, based on work of A. Ros and F. Morgan.
