The spanning method and the Lehmer totient problem
Abstract
In this paper, we introduce and develop the notion of spanning of integers along functions f:N R. We apply this method to a class of problems that requires to determine if the equations of the form tf(n)=n-k has a solution n∈ N for a fixed k∈ N and some t∈ N. In particular, we show that align \# \n≤ s~|~t(n)+1=n,~for~some~t∈ N\≥ s2 sΠ p | s (1-1p)-1-32eγ align as s ∞, where is the Euler totient function and γ=0.5772·s is the Euler-Macheroni constant.
