On the approximation of the zeta function by Dirichlet polynomials

Abstract

We prove that for s=σ+it with σ0 and 0<t x, we have \[ζ(s)=Σn xn-s+x1-s(s-1)+2914 x-σ, 2914=2.07142…\] where is a complex number with ||1. This improves Theorem 4.11 of Titchmarsh.
