A general form of Newton-Maclaurin type inequalities
Abstract
In this paper, we extend the classical Newton-Maclaurin inequalities to functions Sk;s(x)=Ek(x)+i=1s i Ek-i(x), which are formed by linear combinations of multiple basic symmetric mean. We proved that when the coefficients 1,2,·s,s satisfy the condition that the polynomial ts+1 ts-1+2 ts-2+·s+s has only real roots, the Newton-Maclaurin type inequalities hold for Sk;s(x).
