Integrality and Specialized Symmetric Functions

Abstract

Given d1,…,dk in the field F, there is a weighted trace function Fk→ F given by tr(x1,…,xk)=Σ dixi. We prove that Fk satisfies trace identities of the forms α(d1,…,dk) xN= a linear combination of terms with lower powers of x; and tr(y1)·s tr(yn)= a linear combination of terms with fewer traces. The approach uses specialized symmetric functions.
