Measurement of the branching fraction of η μ+ μ- and search for η e+ e-

Abstract

We analyze the decay of η→ +-(=e, μ) via J/→γη' and η'→π+π-η, based on (10087 44) × 106 J/ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage rings. The branching fraction of η→μ+ μ- is measured to be (5.8 1.0 stat 0.2 syst) × 10-6, which is consistent with the previous measurements and theoretical expectations. In addition, no significant η e+e- signal is observed in the e+ e- invariant mass spectrum, and an improved upper limit of B(η e+ e-) < 2.2 × 10-7 is set at 90\% confidence level.
