First Measurement of the Absolute Branching Fraction of ηc γ γ
Abstract
We apply a tag-and-probe method to precisely measure the absolute branching fraction of the decay ηc γ γ with the BESIII experiment at BEPCII. Starting with a large initial sample of 2712.4 14.3 million (3686) events, a sample of 0.16 million ηc events are tagged via the golden channel (3686) π0 hc, hc γ ηc, effectively avoiding interference effects. The absolute branching fraction of ηc γ γ is measured for the first time to be B(ηc γ γ) = (2.45 0.48 stat. 0.09 syst.) × 10-4. Using the world average value of the total width of the ηc, the partial decay width of ηc γ γ is calculated to be (ηc γ γ) = (7.48 1.48 stat. 0.30 syst.)~ keV.
