Unknotting number and connected sums: The knots 41 and 51
Abstract
We show that the knots K∈\41,51\ can be paired with a corresponding knot K such that u(K\#K)<u(K)+u(K). As a consequence unknotting number fails to be additive for these knots. We also provide a candidate knot K for the knot 31.
