Sensitivity of the 3,4He(K-, π0) production ratio to the binding energy of 3_
Abstract
We study the production of 3 and 4 in the 3,4He(K-,π0) reactions at pK-=1.0~GeV/c within the distorted-wave impulse approximation, using the optimal Fermi-averaged K-pπ0 amplitude. Because the 3 ground state is extremely weakly bound, the d-- wave function becomes spatially extended. We calculate the integrated cross sections σ lab and their ratio R34=σ lab(3 H)/σ lab(4 H) for forward angles θ lab=0--20. The production strength of 3 and the ratio R34 are strongly sensitive to the binding energy B, which is constrained to be approximately 0.05--0.15~MeV by comparison with experimental data from the J-PARC E73 experiment. This indicates that the 3He(K-,π0) reaction provides a sensitive probe of the weak binding of 3.
