Some lifting and approximation properties for maps in W1,2(B3;S2)
Abstract
Smooth maps u B3 S2 can be lifted to u B3 S3 using the Hopf fibration h S3 S2 via the factorization u=h u. In this note we characterize the W1,2-maps which have this lifting property in terms of exactness of the pullback form u*ω S2, and deduce a smooth approximation property preserving the constraint u*ω S2=dη.
