New invariants for rank metric codes, with applications to the classification of rank two semifields of order 256
Abstract
In this paper we completely classify semifields of order 28=256 containing a nucleus of order 24=16. We introduce new invariants for semifields, and apply new computational techniques for calculating old invariants. Together these make the computational classification significantly quicker.
