Some new results on determinants and permanents

Abstract

In this paper we confirm several conjectures on determinants and permanents. For example, we prove that for any prime p3 4 the number 2[ajk]0 j,k (p-1)/2 is congruent to a square modulo p, where ajk=(j+kp)+(j2+k2p) with (·p) the Legendre symbol. We also prove that per[jk-1]1≤ j,k≤ n-10 n for any integer n>1 with n2 4.
