On the flash temperature in accelerated sliding contacts
Abstract
The temperature increase in the contact regions between solids in sliding contact can easily reach several hundred Kelvin and thereby dramatically affect friction and wear. Here I extend an earlier multiscale theory for the flash temperature (Ref. MP) to the case of accelerated motion, and present numerical results illustrating the theory.
