The matroid intersection conjecture

Abstract

We prove the matroid intersection conjecture, due to Nash-Williams ahaziv, for infinite matroids: If Mk = (E, Ik) are matroids for k ∈ \0,1\, both having the same base set E, then there is J* ∈ I0 I1 and disjoint subsets Jk⊂eq J* for k∈ \0,1\ such that clM0(J0) clM1(J1) = E.
