At the edge of nuclear stability: nonlinear quantum amplifiers

Abstract

We show that nuclear states lying at the edge of stability may show enormously enhanced response to small perturbations. For example, a 0.1% change in the strength of the strong nucleon-nucleon interaction can cause almost a hundred times bigger change in the resonance energy of the 0+2 state of 12C.
