Chirality-Induced Angular-Momentum Pumping by Moving Charges
Jun-ichiro Kishine, Ron Naaman
Abstract
Chirality-induced spin selectivity is established even in light elements at room temperature; dissipation and electron correlations are implicated, here combined in one mechanism. Injected electron wave packets coherently radiate chiral phonons; electronic absorption competing with phonon decay sets the fraction electrons receive and its temperature dependence. Spin-orbit coupling itself is not renormalized; it becomes effectively large because both the orbital and spin moments it couples are enhanced by Coulomb correlations.
