The search for the Higgs Boson and the EBH mechanism
John Ellis
Abstract
The searches for the Higgs boson at LEP and the Tevatron between 1980 and 2000 are set in the context of the underlying theory of spontaneous symmetry breaking and early phenomenological studies. The evolution of direct searches at LEP and the Tevatron are reviewed, as well as indirect constraints from precision electroweak data. Finally, the state of play in 2000 is summarised, together with the perspectives it offered for later searches.
