Abstract
We introduce nearly determinantal matrices and study their ideals of 2-minors. We classify nearly determinantal matrices whose ideals of 2-minors are prime. Furthermore, we characterize those nearly determinantal matrices whose ideals of 2-minors are prime and Cohen--Macaulay with linear resolutions.
