Fundamental group of locally symmetric varieties
Abstract
Take a bounded symmetric domain D and an arithmetic subgroup of Aut(D). Take the quotient D/, compactify and resolve the singularities. We study the fundamental group of the compact complex manifolds that result from this procedure, and in particular the case of Siegel modular threefolds.
