The underdoped-overdoped transition in YBa2Cu3Ox

Abstract

Oxygen doping in metallic YBa2Cu3Ox induces quadrupolar "alpha-ortho'', and breathing "beta-ortho" deformations of the CuO2 planes. Breathing beta-ortho deformations favour hybridizations of the pd sigma Cu3dx2-y2 - O2px,y with the pd pi Cu3dx,z, 3dy,z-O2pz bands relaxing the confinement of the carriers in the overdoped regime, x>6.95.
