Calculation of α Q.E.D. on the Z

Abstract

We perform a new, detailed calculation of the hadronic contributions to the running electromagnetic coupling, α, defined on the Z particle (91 GeV). We find for the hadronic contribution, including radiative corrections, 105× δv had.α(MZ2)= 274012, or, excluding the top quark contribution, 105× δv had.α(5)(MZ2)= 274712. Adding the pure QED corrections we get a value for the running electromagnetic coupling of α Q.E.D.(MZ2)= 1128.9650.017.
