Production of singlet P-wave c c and b b states
Abstract
No spin-singlet b b quarkonium state has yet been observed. In this paper we discuss the production of the singlet P-wave bb and cc 1P1 states hb and hc. We consider two possibilities. In the first the 1P1 states are produced via the electromagnetic cascades (3S) ηb(2S) + γ hb + γ γ ηb +γγγ and ' ηc' + γ hc + γ γ ηc + γγγ. A more promising process consists of single pion transition to the 1P1 state followed by the radiative transition to the 11S0 state: (3S) hb + π0 ηb + π0 +γ and ' hc + π0 ηc + π0 +γ. For a million (3S) or ''s produced we expect these processes to produce several hundred events.
