Nuclear Disintegration in Magnetic Fields
Abstract
We employ the Weizsaecker-Williams method of virtual quanta to study disintegration of nuclei in magnetic field. We explore a variety of field configurations and conclude that for the energy range of interest for applications to cosmic rays (1018-1021 eV) such disintegrations are not a significant source of energy or flux loss for any realistic acceleration mechanism.
