Study of the Decay $c l+ l

Abstract

Using the CLEO II detector at CESR, we observe 500 l+ pairs consistent with the semileptonic decay c l+ l. We measure σ (e+ e- c X) cal B(c+ l l) =4.77 0.25 0.66 pb. Combining with the charm semileptonic width and the lifetime of the c, we also obtain B(c p K- π+). We find no evidence for l+ l final states in which there are additional c+ decay products. We measure the decay asymmetry parameter of c l+ l to be $α_c =-0.890.170.110.090.06.
