SU(3) Breaking Effects in Charmed Meson Decays

Abstract

The decay rates of D+π+π0 and D0 K+π- recently measured by CLEO give the ratios R1=2|Vcs/Vcd|2(D+ π+π0)/(D+K0 π+)=3.29 1.16 and R2=|Vcs*Vud/(Vcd*Vus)|2(D0 K+π-)/(D0 K-π+)=2.92 1.34\,. Both are about three times of those expected from SU(3) symmetry. We show that, in the large-Nc factorization approach, such large SU(3) violations can be accounted for by the accumulations of several small SU(3)-breaking effects. An important requirement is the relative magnitude of the form factors, f+Dπ(0)>f+DK(0).
