Umbral Calculus in Positive Characteristic
Abstract
An umbral calculus over local fields of positive characteristic is developed on the basis of a relation of binomial type satisfied by the Carlitz polynomials. Orthonormal bases in the space of continuous Fq-linear functions are constructed.
