A pair of optimal inequalities related to the error function
M. Beth Ruskai, Elisabeth Werner
Abstract
The Error Function eqnarray V(x) & & π ex2 [1 - erf(x)] \\ & = & ∫0∞ e-u x2 + u du = 2 ex2∫x∞ e-t2 dt eqnarray arises in many contexts, from probability to mathematical physics. We give estimates for the Error Function from above and below which are optimal within a certain class of functions.
