The Lagrangian formulation of field theory does not provide any universal energy-momentum conservation law in order to analize that in gravitation theory. In Lagrangian field theory, we get different identities involving different stress energy-momentum tensors which however are not conserved, otherwise in the covariant multimomentum Hamiltonian formalism. It is pointed out that the entropy of a membrane which is quantized perturbatively around a background position of fixed radius in a black hole spacetime is equal to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy, if 1) the membrane surface is the horizon surface plus one Planck unit, and 2) its temperature is the Hawking temperature. Schrödinger equations with nonlinearities concentrated in some regions of space are good models of various physical situations and have interesting mathematical properties. We show that in the semiclassical limit it is possible to separate the relevant degrees of freedom by noticing that in the regions where the nonlinearities are effective all states are su

We study the equilibrium spin configuration of the 2D Hubbard model at low doping, when a long-range magnetic order is still present. We use the spin-density-wave formalism and examine the two suggested candidates for a ground state: the planar spiral $(π,Q)$ and $(Q,Q)$ states. In a mean-field theory, each of these two states is a ground state in a certain

The Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) database is subjected to an analysis in terms of the Karhunen-Loeve (KL) empirical eigenfunctions. The concentration variance spectrum is transformed into a wavenumber spectrum, $% E_c(k)$. In terms of wavenumber $E_c(k)$ is shown to be $O(k^{-2/3})$ in the inverse cascade regime, $O(k^{-2})$ in the enstrophy casca

We consider Bayesian constraints on standard isocurvature baryon models from the slope and normalization of the anisotropy power spectrum detected by the COBE DMR experiment in their two year maps. We generate random Gaussian turbulent velocity fields with a Kolmogorov spectrum and use these to obtain synthetic line-of-sight velocity profiles. The profiles are found to be similar to line profiles observed in molecular clouds. We suggest methods for analysing measured line profiles to test whether they might arise from Gaussian Kolmogorov turbulence.

Two models for the mass distribution in the lens were fit: a de Vaucouleurs model and a model with the two-dimensional potential phi = b^{2-alpha}(r^2+s^2)^{alpha/2}/2alpha, both in an external shear field. Supernova explosions into predecessor stellar winds can lead to particle acceleration, which we suggest can explain most of the observed cosmic rays of the nuclei of Helium and heavier elements, from GeV in particle energies up to near $3 \, 10^9$ GeV, as well as electrons above about 30 GeV. The lack of success of Lyman-alpha searches for high-redshift (z>2) field galaxies may be due to extinction by dust, suggesting that surveys based on lines of longer wavelength, particularly H-alpha, may be more effective. We argue that a locally time-reversal symmetry breaking state can occur at Josephson junctions between unconventional superconductors. Order parameters induced by the proximity effect can combine with the bulk order parameter to form such a state. This property is specifically due to the intrinsic phase structure of the pairing wave function in unconventiona

We discuss two dimensional Yang -- Mills theories with massless fermions in arbitrary representations of a gauge group $G$. It is shown that the physics (spectrum and interactions) of the massive states in such models is independent of the detailed structure of the model, and only depends on the gauge group $G$ and an integer $k$ measuring the total anomaly.

This is a contribution on the controversy about junction conditions for classical signature change. The central issue in this debate is whether the extrinsic curvature on slices near the hypersurface of signature change has to be continuous ({\it weak} signature change) or to vanish ({\it strong} signature change). The $La_{1-x} Sr_x MnO_3$ system with $0.2 \lesssim x \lesssim 0.4$ has traditionally been modelled with a ``double exchange'' Hamiltonian, in which it is assumed that the only relevant physics is the tendency of carrier hopping to line up neighboring spins. The next-to-leading order contribution $\d¶\omn (ø,\vc q )$ to the polarization function of the hot gluon system is analysed at non-zero wave vectors $\vc q \,$. Using Braaten-Pisarski resummation and general covariant gauges, $\d¶\omn$ is found to be gauge-fixing independent and transverse on the longitudinal mass-shell. The real part of the longitudinal co

We show that LEPII will either discover charginos and neutralinos, or enable a very stringent upper limit to be placed on $\tan β$ as a function of the gluino mass. The only assumption we make is the existence of some unified model which breaks down to the minimal supersymmetric standard model below the unification scale. In such a framework we discuss how t

Supergravity models are constructed in which the effective low energy theory contains only ``super-soft'' explicit supersymmetry breaking: masses of the scalars and pseudoscalars within a multiplet are split in opposite directions. With this form of supersymmetry breaking the radiative corrections of the matter sector to the vacuum energy are bounded

We here compute the reaction $ γ\; γ\rightarrow G \; π^{0} $ for various glueball candidates $ G $ and their assumed quantum states, using a non-relativistic gluon bound-state model for the glueball.

We propose a method to extract the ratio $|V_{ts}/V_{td}|^2$ from a measurement of $ΔΓ/Γ$ for the $B_s$ meson. This method is experimentally more sensitive than the conventional method for large values of $|V_{ts}|$ but depends on the accuracy of parton level calculations.

The thermal propagator of a heavy muon propagating in a hot QED plasma is examined within the Bloch-Nordsieck approximation, which is valid in the infrared region. It is shown that the muon damping rate is finite, in contrast to the lower-order calculation with hard thermal loop resummations taken into account.

Using $N_c=3$ value of the parameter $a_2=0.09$ but including a modest nonfactorized amplitude, we show that it is possible to understand all data, including polarization, for color-suppressed $B\toψ(ψ(2S))+K(K^*) $ decays in all commonly used models of form factors. We show that for $B\toψ+K$ decay one can define an effective $ a_2$, which is process-depend

We recently showed that a new gauge boson $γ_B$ coupling only to baryon number is phenomenologically allowed, even if $m_B<m_Z$ and $α_B \approx 0.2$. In our previous work we assumed that kinetic mixing between the baryon number and hypercharge gauge bosons (via an $F^{μν}_B F_{μν}^Y$ term) was small enough to evade constraints from precision electroweak mea

We study pure 2D Euclidean quantum gravity with $R^2$ interaction on spherical lattices, employing Regge's formulation. We attempt to measure the string susceptibility exponent $γ_{\rm str}$ by using a finite-size scaling Ansatz in the expectation value of $R^2$. To check on effects of the path integral measure we investigate two scale invariant measures

We report a high statistics simulation of Ising spins coupled to 2D quantum gravity in the Regge calculus approach using triangulated tori with up to $512^2$ vertices. For the constant area ensemble and the $dl/l$ functional measure we definitively can exclude the critical exponents of the Ising phase transition as predicted for dynamically triangulated surf

The strong coupling alpha_s(M_Z^2) has been measured using hadronic decays of Z^0 bosons collected by the SLD experiment at SLAC. The data were compared with QCD predictions both at fixed order, O(alpha_s^2), and including resummed analytic formulae based on the next-to-leading logarithm approximation. In this comprehensive analysis we studied event shapes,

A diffusion-limited annihilation process, A+B->0, with species initially separated in space is investigated. A heuristic argument suggests the form of the reaction rate in dimensions less or equal to the upper critical dimension $d_c=2$. Using this reaction rate we find that the width of the reaction front grows as $t^{1/4}$ in one dimension and as $t^{1/6}(

We report on numerical studies of the influence of Coulomb interactions on localization of electronic wavefunctions in a strong magnetic field. Interactions are treated in the Hartree-Fock approximation. Localization properties are studied both by evaluating participation ratios of Hartree-Fock eigenfunctions and by studying the boundary-condition dependence
