The rational solutions for the discrete Painlevé II equation are constructed based on the bilinear formalism. It is shown that they are expressed by the determinant whose entries are given by the Laguerre polynomials. Continuous limit to the Devisme polynomial representation of the rational solutions for the Painlevé II equation is also discussed.

We give a definition of weak n-categories based on the theory of operads. We work with operads having an arbitrary set S of types, or `S-operads', and given such an operad O, we denote its set of operations by elt(O). Then for any S-operad O there is an elt(O)-operad O+ whose algebras are S-operads over O. Letting I be the initial operad with a one-eleme
Representations of the Lie algebra gl(infinity)^ and ``reciprocity formula'' for Clebsch-Gordan coefficients
q-algBoris Shoikhet
We compare two approaches to the calculation of irreducible characters of the Lie algebra gl(infinity)^ with negative integral central charge. As a consequence, we obtain a "reciprocity formula" for Clebsch-Gordan coefficients, in the limit when the central charge tends to infinity.

In problems where the temporal evolution of a nonlinear system cannot be followed, a method for studying the fluctuations of spatial patterns has been developed. That method is applied to well-known problems in deterministic chaos (the logistic map and the Lorenz model) to check its effectiveness in characterizing the dynamical behaviors. It is found that th

Nucleon flow in Au+Au collisions at 1 GeV/nucleon region and dilepton spectra in S+Au collisions at SPS energies are analysed in the relativistic transport model. An exact non-perturbative calculation of the fourth-order anomalous correction to the scaling behaviour of a random shell-model for passive scalars is presented. Importance of ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) boundary conditions on the inertial scaling properties are determined. We find that anomalous behaviour is given by the null-space of the inertial op

We present the results of the tree-level calculation of inclusive two-hadron production in electron-positron annihilation via one photon up to subleading order in 1/Q. We consider the situation where the two hadrons belong to different, back-to-back jets. We include polarization of the produced hadrons and discuss azimuthal dependences of asymmetries. New as

In this paper we determine the structure of the Chow ring of the Delaunay-Voronoi compactification $\tilde{\cal A}_3$ of the moduli space of principally polarized abelian threefolds. This compactification was introduced by Namikawa and studied by Tsushima. We use equivariant classes on level coverings of $\tilde{\cal A}_3$. We also compare this ring with the

We propose a model for scattering in a flat resonator with a thin antenna. The results are applied to rectangular microwave cavities. We compute the resonance spacing distribution and show that it agrees well with experimental data provided the antenna radius is much smaller than wavelengths of the resonance wavefunctions.

The generalized counting quantum Turing machine (GCQTM) is a machine which, for any N, enumerates the first $2^{N}$ integers in succession as binary strings. The generalization consists of associating a potential with read-1 steps only. The Landauer Resistance (LR) and band spectra were determined for the tight binding Hamiltonians associated with the GCQTM

Quantum parallelism is the main feature of quantum computation. In 1985 D. Deutsch showed that a single quantum computation may be sufficient to state whether a two-valued function of a two-valued variable is constant or not. Though the generalized problem with unconstrained domain and range size admits no deterministic quantum solution, a fully probabilisti

Two-particle correlation functions for positive and negative pions have been measured in Au+Au collisions at 10.8~GeV/c per nucleon. The data were analyzed using one- and three-dimensional correlation functions. From the results of the three-dimensional fit the phase space density of pions was calculated. It is consistent with local thermal equilibrium.

It is shown that differences, due to charge-dependent effects, in the 17N and 17Ne ground-state wave functions account for the fact that the experimentally measured branch for the beta+ decay of 17Ne to the first excited state of 17F is roughly a factor of two larger than expected on the basis of nuclear matrix elements which reproduce the corresponding beta

For a $Q \cdot Q$ interaction the energy weighted sum rule for isovector orbital magnetic dipole transitions is proportional to the difference $\sum B(E2, isoscalar) - \sum B(E2, isovector)$, not just to $\sum B(E2, physical)$. This fact is important in ensuring that one gets the correct limit as one goes to nuclei, some of which are far from stability, for

This review is devoted to the discussion of hadron properties in the nuclear medium and its relation to the partial restoration of chiral symmetry. Special attention is given to disentangle in-medium effects due to conventional many-body interactions from those due to the change of the chiral condensate. In particular, we shall discuss medium effects on the

We show that groups satisfying Kazhdan's property (T) have no unbounded actions on finite dimensional CAT(0) cube complexes, and deduce that there is a locally CAT(-1) Riemannian manifold which is not homotopy equivalent to any finite dimensional, locally CAT(0) cube complex.

Effective actions are derived for (2,0) and (2,1) superstrings by studying the corresponding sigma-models. The geometry is a generalisation of Kahler geometry involving torsion and the field equations imply that the curvature with torsion is self-dual in four dimensions, or has SU(n,m) holonomy in other dimensions. The Yang-Mills fields are self-dual in four

The algebra of observables for identical particles on a line is formulated starting from postulated basic commutation relations. A realization of this algebra in the Calogero model was previously known. New realizations are presented here in terms of differentiation operators and in terms of SU(N)-invariant observables of the Hermitian matrix models. Some pa
