This paper is a response to some recent discussions of many-minds interpretations in the philosophical literature. After an introduction to the many-minds idea, the complexity of quantum states for macroscopic objects is stressed. Then it is proposed that a characterization of the physical structure of observers is a proper goal for physical theory. It is ar

The Bloom-Gilman local duality of the inelastic structure function of the proton, the deuteron and light complex nuclei is investigated using available experimental data in the squared four-momentum transfer range from 0.3 to 5 (GeV/c)**2. The results of our analysis suggest that the onset of the Bloom-Gilman local duality is anticipated in complex nuclei wi

We propose a simple gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking model in which suitable soft breaking masses are dynamically generated without relying on a messenger sector. This model is constructed as an extention of the 3-2 model and needs no fine-tuning of parameters. The dynamical supersymmetry breaking sector contains non-renormalizable interactions and vect

A low-energy background field solution is presented which describes several D-membranes oriented at angles with respect to one another. The mass and charge densities for this configuration are computed and found to saturate the BPS bound, implying the preservation of one-quarter of the supersymmetries. T-duality is exploited to construct new solutions with n

We present a systematic weak-coupling renormalization group (RG) technique for studying a collection of $N$ coupled one-dimensional interacting electron systems, focusing on the example of N-leg Hubbard ladders. For $N=2,3$, we recover previous results, and find that also more generally broad regions of the phase space of these models are unstable to pairing

Point transformations for the ordinary differential equations of the form $y''=P(x,y)+3 Q(x,y) y'+3 R(x,y) (y')^2+S(x,y) (y')^3$ are considered. Some classical results are resumed. Solution for the equivalence problem for the equations of general position is described.

Gamma matrices for quantum Minkowski spaces are found. The invariance of the corresponding Dirac operator is proven. We introduce momenta for spin 1/2 particles and get (in certain cases) formal solutions of the Dirac equation.

We construct a Hopf algebra cocycle in the Yangian double $DY(SL_{2})$, conjugating Drinfeld's coproduct to the usual one. To do that, we factorize the twist between two ``opposite'' versions of Drinfeld's coproduct, introduced in earlier work by V. Rubtsov and the first author, using the decomposition of the algebra in its negative and non-n

Representation theory for the Jordanian quantum algebra $U=U_h(sl(2))$ is developed. Closed form expressions are given for the action of the generators of U on the basis vectors of finite dimensional irreducible representations. It is shown how representation theory of U has a close connection to combinatorial identities involving summation formulas. A gener

We have investigated the threshold of photodetachment of Li^- leading to the formation of the residual Li atom in the $2p ^2P$ state. The excited residual atom was selectively photoionized via an intermediate Rydberg state and the resulting Li^+ ion was detected. A collinear laser-ion beam geometry enabled both high resolution and sensitivity to be attained.

The electron affinity of tellurium has been determined to 1.970 876(7) eV. The threshold for photodetachment of Te^-(^{2} P_{3/2}) forming neutral Te in the ground state was investigated by measuring the total photodetachment cross section using a collinear laser-ion beam geometry. The electron affinity was obtained from a fit to the Wigner law in the thresh

We present some important corrections to our work which appeared in Nucl. Phys. B426 (1994) 534 (hep-th/9402144). Our previous results for the correlation functions $\langle e^{iαΦ(x)} e^{iα' Φ(0) } \rangle$ were only valid for $α= α'$, due to the fact that we didn't find the most general solution to the differential equations we derived. I sketch how long wavelength modes of the pion field can be amplified during the QCD phase transition. The partition function of the model on the dual lattice with arbitrary combinations of the periodical and antiperiodical boundary conditions along the cycles of the torus is expressed through some specific combination of the partition funct

We consider a parabolic-like systems of differential equations involving geometrical quantities to examine uniformization theorems for two- and three-dimensional closed orientable manifolds. We find that in the two-dimensional case there is a simple gauge theoretic flow for a connection built from a Riemannian structure, and that the convergence of the flow

Vacuum polarization and particle production effects in classical electromagnetic and gravitational backgrounds can be studied by the effective lagrangian method. Background field configurations for which the effective lagrangian is zero are special in the sense that the lowest order quantum corrections vanishes for such configurations. We propose here the co

We define quantum field theory by taking the Lagrangian action to be given as a sequence of mathematically well-defined functionals written in terms of operator fields fulfilling given \hbox{local} commutation relations. The renormalized solution fields have a fully defined Fock space expansion and are \hbox{multi-local}; thus Haag's theorem does not app

Recent results on diffraction at HERA, as measured by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations, are reviewed. Results on the photon-proton total hadronic cross section, on vector meson production both at small and large photon virtuality and on photon diffraction are presented. The experimental signature of diffraction at HERA, as well as the selection methods used by

We show that the production rates of light-flavoured mesons and baryons in inelastic pp and p$\bar{p}$ collisions can be described by a simple approach used to describe data obtained in $e^{+}e^{-}$ annihilation. Based on the idea of string fragmentation, the approach describes the production rates of light-flavoured mesons and baryons originating from fragm

The mass problem in particle physics and its impact for other fields is discussed. While the problem of the nuclear masses has been resolved within the QCD framework, many parameters of the ``Standard Model'' are related to the fermion sector. The origin of the fermion masses remains unresolved. We discuss attempts to explain the observed hierarchica

The conformal invariance properties of the QCD Pomeron in the transverse plane allow us to give an explicit analytical expression for the solution of the BFKL equations both in the transverse coordinate and momentum spaces. This result is obtained from the solution of the conformal eigenvectors in the mixed representation in terms of two conformal blocks, ea

We show that axion domain wall is ferromagnetic in the universe with nonvanishing baryon number or lepton number. It is caused by protons and electrons bounded to the domain wall with their spins aligned. These bound states arise due to attractive potentials generated through pseudo-vector couplings between the fermions and the axion. Using a model of hadron

In order to extract the behavior and magnitude of the spin-dependent gluon distribution, we propose a semi-inclusive $Λ_c^+$ production using unpolarized lepton beams and polarized proton targets. The correlation between the target proton spin and the spin of $Λ_c^+$ produced in the target fragmentation region might be very effective for testing various mode

This is a brief contribution in which a simplified criterion of the relevance of the test-particle approximation describing motion of material near a magnetized black hole is discussed. Application to processes of the dissipative collimation of astronomical jets (as proposed by de Felice and Curir, 1992) is mentioned.

We consider a burst of quadrupole gravitational radiation in the presence of a large static mass $M$ situated at its source. Some of the radiation is back-scattered off the static field of the large mass, forming a wave tail. After the burst, the tail is a pure incoming wave, carrying energy back towards the source. We calculate this energy, and, in a numeri

Given a holomorphic Hilbertian bundle on a compact complex manifold, we introduce the notion of holomorphic $L^2$ torsion, which lies in the determinant line of the twisted $L^2$ Dolbeault cohomology and represents a volume element there. Here we utilise the theory of determinant lines of Hilbertian modules over finite von Neumann algebras as developed in an

We present a molecular dynamics simulation study of the liquid-solid transition in a two dimensional system consisting of particles of two different sizes interacting via a truncated Lennard-Jones potential. We work with equal number of particles of each kind and the dispersity $Δ$ in the sizes of the particles is varied by changing the ratio of the particle

We have measured the complex surface impedance of 2H-NbSe_2 in the mixed state over a wide range of magnetic field(0-2T) and frequency(10-3000MHz). A crossover between pinned and viscous dynamics of flux-lines is observed at a pinning frequency, $ω_p$. The measured $ω_p$ is compared to that predicted by a single-particle "washboard potential" model f

We present the first measurements of magnetisation and Raman light scattering on $α'-NaV_2O_5$ single crystals. Below 34 K, we observe a pronounced isotropic decrease of the susceptibility indicating the opening of a spin gap. The transition temperature is slightly field dependent. Raman experiments reveal a crystallographic distortion at the transition.
