In this paper we show how to construct a Dirac operator on a lattice in complete analogy with the continuum. In fact we consider a more general problem, that is, the Dirac operator over an abelian finite group (for which a lattice is a particular example). Our results appear to be in direct connexion with the so called fermion doubling problem. In order to f

We use the boundary state formalism to study the interaction of two moving identical D-branes in the Type II superstring theory compactified on orbifolds. By computing the velocity dependence of the amplitude in the limit of large separation we can identify the nature of the different forces between the branes. In particular, in the Z_3 orbifold case we find

Type-IIB supersymmetric theories have an SL(2,Z) invariance, known as U-duality, which controls the non-perturbative behavior of the theory. Under SL(2,Z) the supercharges are doublets, implying that the bosonic charges would be singlets or triplets. However, among the bosonic charges there are doublet strings and doublet fivebranes which are in conflict wit

The Coulomb gauge has a long history and many uses. It is especially useful in bound state applications. An important feature of this gauge is that the matter fields have an infra-red finite propagator in an on-shell renormalisation scheme. This is, however, only the case if the renormalisation point is chosen to be the static point on the mass shell, p = (m

Attributing the recent CLEO discovery of $B \to η' + X_s$ to originate (primarily) from the fragmentation of an off-shell gluon ($g^*$) via $b \to s + g^*$, $g^* \to g + η'$, we emphasize that many such states ($X_g$) should materialize. Indeed the hadronic fragments ($X_g$) of $g^*$ states are closely related to those seen in $ψ\to γ(ϕ, ω) + X_g$. A

We calculate expected event rates for direct detection of relic neutralinos as a function of parameter space of the minimal supergravity model. Numerical results are presented for the specific case of a $^{73}$Ge detector. We find significant detection rates ($R> 0.01$ events/kg/day) in regions of parameter space most favored by constraints from $B\to X_sγ$

We present a chiral constituent quark model for light and strange baryons providing a unified description of their ground states and excitation spectra. The model relies on constituent quarks and Goldstone bosons arising as effective degrees of freedom of low-energy QCD from the spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry. The spectra of the three-quark systems
Diffractive rho-meson Leptoproduction on Polarized Nucleon as a Way to Measure the Polarized Gluon Distribution
hep-phM. G. Ryskin
The amplitude of diffractive $ρ$ (and open quark) leptoproduction on a polarized target is calculated in the leading log approximation of pQCD using the hadron-parton duality hypothesis. The spin-spin asymmetry is expressed in terms of the spin dependent gluon and quark structure functions in the small $x$ region. Therefore the $γ^*+p\to ρ+p$ reaction provid
Signatures of Absorption Mechanisms for J/psi and psi' Production in High-Energy Heavy-Ion Collisions
hep-phCheuk-Yin Wong
J/psi and psi' produced in high-energy heavy-ion collisions are absorbed by their collisions with nucleons and produced soft particles, leading to two distinct absorption mechanisms. The signature of absorption by produced soft particles, as revealed by psi' production data, consists of a gap and a change of the slope in going from the pA line to the

A new method of calculating deep inelastic structure functions for the nucleon in independent particle models is presented. The method is applied to the bag-like model and its predictions are compared with the parametrisation of Gluck, Reya and Vogt.

We calculate the contributions of penguin diagrams with internal u or c quarks to various inclusive charmless B-decay rates. Further we analyze the influence of the chromomagnetic dipole operator Q_8 on these rates. We find that the rates corresponding to B-bar --> X_{u u-bar s}, B-bar --> X_{d d-bar s}, B-bar --> X_{s s-bar s}, B-bar --> X_{s s-bar d} and B

The electric dipole moments (EDMs) of the neutron and the electron are reviewed within the framework of the supersymmetric standard model (SSM) based on grand unified theories coupled to N=1 supergravity. Taking into account one-loop and two-loop contributions to the EDMs, we explore SSM parameter space consistent with experiments and discuss predicted value

The basic ideas and some results of the semiclassical approach to diffractive DIS are briefly described. In the production of high-$p_{\perp}$ jets boson-gluon fusion is predicted to be the dominant partonic process. The $p_{\perp}$-spectrum and the two-jet invariant mass distribution provide a clear test of the underlying `hard' partonic process and the
