We study the simplest geometrical particle model associated with null paths in four-dimensional Minkowski space-time. The action is given by the pseudo-arclength of the particle worldline. We show that the reduced classical phase space of this system coincides with that of a massive spinning particle of spin $s=α^2/M$, where $M$ is the particle mass, and $α$

The $sl(2)$ minimal theories are labelled by a Lie algebra pair $(A,G)$ where $G$ is of $A$-$D$-$E$ type. A new cosmological model leads to testable predictions that are different from those of both standard cosmology and models with a cosmological constant. The prediction that q_0=0 is the same as in other ``coasting universe'' models, but arises without the need for any exotic form of matter or other ad hoc assumptions.

The coupling $g_{B^\ast B π}$ is related to the form factor at zero momentum of the axial current between $B^\ast$- and $B$-states. The damping of hot giant dipole resonances is investigated. The contribution of surface scattering is compared with the contribution from interparticle collisions. A unified response function is presented which includes surface damping as well as collisional damping. The surface damping enters the response via the Lyapunov exponent and the collisional dampin

We work out the relation between automorphic forms on SO(s+2,2) and gauge one-loop corrections of heterotic K3 x T^2 string compactifications for the cases s=0,1. We find that one-loop gauge corrections of any orbifold limit of K3 can always be expressed by their instanton numbers and generic automorphic forms. These functions classify also one-loop gauge thr

In the SND experiment at the VEPP-2M electron-positron collider the PHI(1020)--->PI0+PI0+GAMMA decay was studied. The branching ratio B(PHI--->PI0+PI0+GAMMA)=(1.14+-0.10+-0.12)x10^{-4} was measured. It was shown, that the F0(980)GAMMA mechanism dominates in this decay and the 4-quark model of F0(980) describes our data most consistently.

We investigate realizations of supersymmetry at finite temperature in terms of thermal superfields, in a thermally constrained superspace: the Grassmann coordinates are promoted to be time-dependent and antiperiodic, with a period given by the inverse temperature. This approach allows to formulate a Kubo-Martin-Schwinger (KMS) condition at the level of therm

Spatially inhomogeneous electron distribution around a single vortex is discussed on the basis of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes theory. The spatial structure and temperature dependence of the electron density around the vortex are presented. A relation between the vortex core charge and the vortex bound states (or the Caroli-de Gennes-Matricon states) is pointed

A quantized vortex in the Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC), which is known to be unstable intrinsically, is demonstrated theoretically to be stabilized by the finite temperature effect. The mean-field calculation of Popov approximation within the Bogoliubov theory is employed, giving rise to a self-consistent solution for BEC confined by a harmonic potential

We construct ergodic actions of compact quantum groups on C^*-algebras and von Neumann algebras, and exhibit phenomena of such actions that are of a different nature from ergodic actions of compact Lie groups. In particular, we construct: (1). ergodic actions of the compact quantum groups $A_u(Q)$ on the Powers factors; (2). ergodic actions of the compact qu

We introduce a discrete deformation of Rieffel type for finite (quantum) groups. Using this, we give a non-trivial example of a finite quantum group of order 18. We also give a deformation of finite groups of Lie type by using their maximal abelian subgroups.

The interplay of spin and charge fluctuations in the random transverse-field Ising spin chain on the fermionic space is investigated. The finite chemical potential, which controls the charge fluctuations, leads to the appearance of the quantum critical region in the phase diagram where the magnetic correlations are quenched by nonmagnetic sites. Regions of n

We investigate the cosmological evolution of GRBs, using the total gamma ray fluence as a measure of the burst strength. This involves an understanding of the distributions of the spectral parameters of GRBs as well as the total fluence distribution - both of which are subject to detector selection effects. We present new non-parametric statistical technique

We provide the first explanation of the counter-intuitive scalar glueball couplings to pseudoscalar mesons found in lattice QCD and predict hitherto uncalculated decay modes. Significant a_1 pi and (pi pi)_S (pi pi)_S couplings are found. We demonstrate the equivalence of linear and quadratic mass matrices for glueball-quarkonium mixing. The equivalence of f

This paper is devoted to generalize some previous results presented in Gaioli et al., Int. J. Theor. Phys. 36, 2167 (1997). We evaluate the autocorrelation function of the stochastic acceleration and study the asymptotic evolution of the mean occupation number of a harmonic oscillator playing the role of a Brownian particle. We also analyze some deviations f

We introduce a `proper time' formalism to study the instability of the vacuum in a uniform external electric field due to particle production. This formalism allows us to reduce a quantum field theoretical problem to a quantum-mechanical one in a higher dimension. The instability results from the inverted oscillator structure which appears in the Hamilto
