The exotic neutrinoless $μ^- - e^-$ nuclear conversion is studied within the conventional extensions of the standard model as well as in the minimal supersymmetric (SUSY) models with and without R-parity conservation. The dependence of the $μ^- - e^-$ conversion rates on the nucleon and nuclear structure is consistently taken into account. Using our calculat
Can Four-fermion Contact Interactions at One-loop Explain the New Atomic Parity Violation Results?
hep-phAndré Gusso
We investigate the possibility that four-fermion contact interactions give rise to the observed deviation from the Standard Model prediction for the weak charge of Cesium, through one-loop contributions. We show that the presence of loops involving the third generation quarks can explain such deviation.

The generation structure in the quark and lepton spectrum is explained as originating from the excitation spectrum S_n of SU(2)_W doublet scalar fields, whose ground state S_1 is the Standard Model Higgs field. There is only one basic family of SU(2)_W doublet left-handed fermions, nu_L, e_L, u_L, d_L, whose bound states with S_n manifest themselves as the g

Recently D'Hoker et al. (1999) computed 4-point correlation functions of axion and dilaton fields in type IIB SUGRA on AdS_5 x S^5. We reproduce from a CFT point of view all power law singular terms in these AdS 4-point amplitudes. We also calculate a corresponding 4-point function in the weak coupling limit, g_{YM}^2 N -> 0. Comparison reveals the existence

We analyze the two loop renormalization group equations in the standard model and its extensions for the coupling constants and the quark Yukawa couplings. The key point of our analysis is the observed hierarchy of the quark masses and the CKM matrix. For the one loop evolution we find the explicit solution for the evolution of the Yukawa couplings and show

The order parameters of dynamical chiral symmetry breaking in QCD, the dynamical mass of quarks and the chiral condensates, are evaluated by numerically solving the Non-Perturbative Renormalization Group (NPRG) equations. We employ an approximation scheme beyond ``the ladder'', that is, beyond the (improved) ladder Schwinger-Dyson equations. The chir

We consider the ground state in a model with scalar nucleons and a meson using the formalism of light-front dynamics. Light-front potentials for two-nucleon bound states are calculated using two approaches. First, light-front time-ordered perturbation theory is used to calculate one- and two-meson-exchange potentials. These potentials give results that agree

We prove that the LMO-invariant of a 3-manifold of rank one is determined by the Alexander polynomial of the manifold, and conversely, that the Alexander polynomial is determined by the LMO-invariant. Furthermore, we show that the Alexander polynomial of a null-homologous knot in a rational homology 3-sphere can be obtained by composing the weight system of

Contrary to common belief, both the Earth's human population and its economic output have grown faster than exponential, i.e., in a super-Malthusian mode, for most of the known history. These growth rates are compatible with a spontaneous singularity occuring at the same critical time 2052 +- 10 signaling an abrupt transition to a new regime. The degree

We give a new derivation of the minimal velocity estimates for unitary evolutions with some optimal bounds.

This paper concerns the inverse spectral problem for analytic simple surfaces of revolution. By `simple' is meant that there is precisely one critical distance from the axis of revolution. Such surfaces have completely integrable geodesic flows with global action-angle variables and possess global quantum Birkhoff normal forms (Colin de Verdiere). We pro

Let $d,m_1,...,m_r$ be ($r+1$) positive integers, and $P_1,...,P_r$ be $r$ general points in the projective plane ; let $m$ be a positive integer. We prove that there exists a bound $d_0(m)$ such that : If $m_i < m$ ($0<i<r+1$), and $d > d_0(m)$ then the linear system $L$ of plane curves of degree $d$ having a multiplicity at least $m_i$ at each point $P_i$

These TASI lectures review the Holographic principle. The first lecture describes the puzzle of black hole information loss that led to the idea of Black Hole Complementarity and subsequently to the Holographic Principle itself. The second lecture discusses the holographic entropy bound in general space-times. The final two lectures are devoted to the ADS/CF

The physical phase space in gauge systems is studied. Effects caused by a non-Euclidean geometry of the physical phase space in quantum gauge models are described in the operator and path integral formalisms. The projection on the Dirac gauge invariant states is used to derive a necessary modification of the Hamiltonian path integral in gauge theories of the

It is shown that 3D vector van der Waals (conformal) nonlinear $σ$-model (NSM) on a sphere $S^2$ has two types of topological excitations reminiscent vortices and instantons of 2D NSM. The first, the hedgehogs, are described by homotopic group $π_2(S^2) = \mathbb {Z}$ and have the logarithmic energies. They are an analog of 2D vortices. The energy and intera

We study the ground state properties of trapped atomic condensates with electric field induced dipole-dipole interactions. A rigorous method for constructing the pseudo potential in the spirit of ladder approximation is developed for general non-spherical (polarized) particles interacting anisotropically. We discuss interesting features not previously consid
