Low-energy effective M-theory (11d supergravity or 11d SUSY theory) is considered in 11d flat or AdS background. After orbifold compactification of eleventh dimension one gets flat 10d brane at non-zero temperature. The directed and elliptic flow in collisions of $^{112}Sn$ + $^{112}Sn$ at energies from 35 to 90 MeV/nucleon were studied in an isospin-dependent quantum molecule dynamics model (IQMD). Finding the eigenstates of the total Hamiltonian H or its diagonalization is the important problem of quantum physics. However, in relativistic quantum field theory (RQFT) its complete and exact solution is possible for a few simple models only. We present Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and ground-based observations of a pair of galaxies at redshift 2.38, which are collectively known as 2142-4420 B1 (Francis et al. 1996). The two galaxies are both luminous extremely red objects (EROs), separated by 0.8 arcsec. They are embedded within a 100 kpc scale diffuse Ly-alpha nebula (or blob) of luminosity ~10

We report the discovery of eight new R Coronae Borealis (RCB) stars in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) using the MACHO project photometry database. The discovery of these new stars increases the number of known RCB stars in the LMC to thirteen. We have also discovered four stars similar to the Galactic variable DY Per. These stars decline much more slowly a
The r-Process in Neutrino-Driven Winds from Nascent, "Compact" Neutron Stars of Core-Collapse Supernovae
astro-phShinya Wanajo, Toshitaka Kajino, Grant J. Mathews, Kaori Otsuki
We present calculations of r-process nucleosynthesis in neutrino-driven winds from the nascent neutron stars of core-collapse supernovae. A full dynamical reaction network for both the alpha-rich freezeout and the subsequent r-process is employed. The physical properties of the neutrino-heated ejecta are deduced from a general relativistic model in which sph
Surface Photometric Calibration of the Infrared Tully-Fisher Relation Using Cepheid-based Distances of Galaxies
astro-phMasaru Watanabe, Naoki Yasuda, Nobunari Itoh
Infrared J and H surface photometry are carried out for nearby 12 galaxies whose distances have been accurately measured via HST Cepheid observations. Using the total, isophotal, and surface-photometric aperture magnitudes we calibrate the infrared luminosity-line width relation (IRTF). It is found that IRTF changes its slope at log W_{20}^c=2.45 in all the

In this paper we review the experimental and observational searches for stable, massive, elementary particles other than the electron and proton. The particles may be neutral, may have unit charge or may have fractional charge. They may interact through the strong, electromagnetic, weak or gravitational forces or through some unknown force. The purpose of th

Coannihilation effects in neutralino relic density calculations are examined for a full range of supersymmetry parameters including large \tanβand large A_0 for stau, chargino, stop and sbottom coannihilation with the neutralino. Supergravity models possessing grand unification with universal soft breaking (mSUGRA), models with nonuniversal soft breaking in

Pion-nucleon elastic scattering in the dominant $P_{33}$ channel is examined in the model in which the interaction is of the form $π+ N\leftrightarrow N, Δ(1232)$. New expressions are found for the elastic pion-nucleon scattering amplitude which differ from existing formula both in the kinematics and in the treatment of the renormalization of the nucleon mas

We propose explicit expressions for the form factors, including their normalization constants, of topologically charged (or soliton-creating) operators in the sine-Gordon model. The normalization constants, which constitute the main content of our proposal, allow one to find exact relations between the short- and long-distance asymptotics of the correlation

We show that the coset ^sl(2)+^sl(2)/^sl(2) is a quantum Hamiltonian reduction of the exceptional affine Lie superalgebra ^D(2|1;α) and that the corresponding W algebra is the commutant of the U_{q}D(2|1;α) quantum group.

We study the evolution and observability of young, compact star clusters near the Galactic center, such as the Arches and Quintuplet systems. The clusters are modeled by integrating the equations of motion of all stars while accounting for the internal evolution of stars and binaries, as well as the effect of the Galactic tidal field. We find that clusters w

We report the results of a deep Chandra ACIS pointing at the merging system NGC 4038/39. We detect an extraordinarily luminous population of X-ray sources, with luminosity well above that of XRBs in M31 and the Milky Way. If these sources are unbeamed XRBs, our observations may point to them being 10-100Mo black hole counterparts. We detect an X-ray bright h

Recently BNL have measured the muon magnetic moment anomaly with increased precision. The world average experimental value at present shows a discrepancy of 43(16)\times 10^{-10} from the Standard Model value. In this paper we investigate the implications of this difference on a class of scalar leptoquark interactions to SM quark-lepton pair. We find that fo

Lepton number violation could be manifest in the sneutrino sector of supersymmetric extensions of the standard model with conserved R-parity. Then sneutrinos decay partly into the ``wrong sign charged lepton'' final state, if kinematically accessible. In sneutrino pair production or associated single sneutrino production, the signal then is a like si
Cluster expansions in dilute systems: applications to satisfiability problems and spin glasses
cond-mat.stat-mechGuilhem Semerjian, Leticia F. Cugliandolo
We develop a systematic cluster expansion for dilute systems in the highly dilute phase. We first apply it to the calculation of the entropy of the K-satisfiability problem in the satisfiable phase. We derive a series expansion in the control parameter, the average connectivity, that is identical to the one obtained by using the replica approach with a repli
