Polar type density of states in non-unitary odd-parity superconducting states of gap with point nodes
cond-mat.supr-conK. Miyake
It is shown that the density of states (DOS) proportional to the excitation energy, the so-called polar like DOS, can arise in the odd-parity states with the superconducting gap vanishing at points even if the spin-orbit interaction for Cooper pairing is strong enough. Such gap stuructures are realized in the non-unitary states, F_{1u}(1,i,0), F_{1u}(1,varep

We describe theoretically novel excitons in self-assembled quantum dots interacting with a two-dimensional electron gas in the wetting layer. In the presence of the Fermi sea, the optical lines become strongly voltage-dependent. If the electron spin is nonzero, the width of optical lines is given by k_BT_K, where T_K is Kondo temperature. Anisotropy of heavy hole spin splitting and interference effects of optical polarization in semiconductor quantum wells subjected to an in-plane magnetic field
cond-mat.mtrl-sciYu. G. Semenov, S. M. Ryabchenko
Strong effects of optical polarization anisotropy observed previously in the quantum wells subjected to the in-plane magnetic field arrive at complete description within microscopic approach. Theory we develop involves two sources of optical polarization. First source is due to correlations between electron and heavy hole (HH) phases of $ψ$-functions arising

We consider two situations that can be modeled by oscillators. First we show that the universe itself is a normal mode of Planck scale oscillators. The surface behaviour of the pairing gap previously studied for semi-infinite nuclear matter is analyzed in the slab geometry. The gap-shape function is calculated in two cases: (a) pairing with the Gogny force in a hard-wall potential and (b) pairing with the separable Paris interaction in a Saxon-Woods mean-field potential. It is shown that the surface fea
The reaction antirproton-proton into pi+pi-: relativistic aspects and final-state interaction in the pion wave functions

We use a distorted wave approximation approach which includes $^3P_0$ and $^3S_1$ quark-antiquark annihilation mechanisms to reproduce the data set from LEAR on $\bar p p\to π^+π^-$ in the range from 360 to 1550 MeV/c. Improvements of the model are sought by implementing final-state interactions of the pions and by observing that the annihilation is too shor
Study of Proton Magic Even-Even Isotopes and Giant Halos of Ca Isotopes with Relativistic Continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov Theory
nucl-thS. Q. Zhang, J. Meng, H. Toki, I. Tanihata
We study the proton magic O, Ca, Ni, Zr, Sn, and Pb isotope chains from the proton drip line to the neutron drip line with the relativistic continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov (RCHB) theory. Particulary, we study in detail the properties of even-even Ca isotopes due to the appearance of giant halos in neutron rich Ca nuclei near the neutron drip line. The RCHB theo

The low-lying states of light nuclei $^6$He and $^6$Be are studied. Using the inherent nodal surface(INS) analysis approach, we deduce the quantum numbers and the spatial symmetries of the low-lying states with positive parity and negative parity of the two nuclei. The energy spectrum obtained agrees well with the experimental data.
Crystal Ball Collaboration, W. J. Briscoe, A. Shafi, I. I. Strakovsky
The Crystal Ball Spectrometer is being used at Brookhaven National Laboratory in a series of experiments which study all neutral final states of pi-p and K-p induced reactions. We report about the experimental setup and progress in obtaining new results for the radiative capture reactions pi-p-->gn and K-p-->gL,charge exchange pi-p-->pi0n,two pi0 production

The effect of direct processes on the statistical properties of deterministic scattering processes in a chaotic waveguide is examined. The single channel Poisson kernel describes well the distribution of S-matrix eigenphases when evaluated over an energy interval. When direct processes are transformed away, the scattering processes exhibit universal random m

We present new results from a direct numerical simulation of a three dimensional homogeneous Rayleigh-Benard system (HRB), i.e. a convective cell with an imposed linear mean temperature profile along the vertical direction. We measure the SO(3)-decomposition of both velocity structure functions and buoyancy terms. We give a dimensional prediction for the val

Stable two- and three-dimensional spatiotemporal solitons (STSs) in second-harmonic-generating media are found in the case of normal dispersion at the second harmonic (SH). This result, surprising from the theoretical viewpoint, opens a way for experimental realization of STSs. An analytical estimate for the existence of STSs is derived, and full results, in
On boundary values for rectifiable curves of a generalization of the Cauchy-type integral related to the Helmholtz operator in $R^2$
math.CVOleg F. Gerus, Michael Shapiro
There are considered vector fields and quaternionic $α$-hyperholomorphic functions in a domain of $R^2$ which generalize the notion of solenoidal and irrotational vector fields. There are established sufficient conditions for the corresponding Cauchy-type integral along a closed Jordan rectifiable curve to be continuously extended onto the closure of a domai

We describe singularities of the convex hull of a generic compact smooth hypersurface in four-dimensional affine space up to diffeomorphisms. It turns out there are only two new singularities (in comparison with the previous dimension case) which appear at separate points of the boundary of the convex hull and are not removed by a small perturbation of the o

We give a new and short proof of the Mallows-Sloane upper bound for self-dual codes. We formulate a version of Greene's theorem for normalized weight enumerators. We relate normalized rank-generating polynomials to two-variable zeta functions. And we show that a self-dual code has the Clifford property, but that the same property does not hold in general

Motivated by our study (elsewhere) of linear syzygies of homogeneous ideals generated by quadrics and their restrictions to subvarieties of the ambient projective space, we investigate in this note possible zero-dimensional intersections of two Veronese surfaces in P^5. The case of two Veronese surfaces in P^5 meeting in 10 simple points appears also in work

For a graph G, we construct two algebras, whose dimensions are both equal to the number of spanning trees of G. One of these algebras is the quotient of the polynomial ring modulo certain monomial ideal, while the other is the quotient of the polynomial ring modulo certain powers of linear forms. We describe the set of monomials that forms a linear basis in

We use intersection theory, degeneration techniques and jet schemes to study log canonical thresholds. Our first result gives a lower bound for the log canonical threshold of a pair in terms of the log canonical threshold of the image by a suitable smooth morphism. This in turn is based on an inequality relating the log canonical threshold and the Samuel mul
Boundary rigidity for Lagrangian submanifolds, non-removable intersections, and Aubry-Mather theory
math.SGGabriel P. Paternain, Leonid Polterovich, Karl Friedrich Siburg
We consider Lagrangian submanifolds lying on a fiberwise strictly convex hypersurface in some cotangent bundle or, respectively, in the domain bounded by such a hypersurface. We establish a new boundary rigidity phenomenon, saying that certain Lagrangians on the hypersurface cannot be deformed (via Lagrangians having the same Liouville class) into the interi
